This is The Frames playing in Vicar Street just before Christmas. This was the second last gig of 2010 for me and it gave me one of the best shots yet. Vicar Street can be a bit hit and miss for these photographs depending on the lighting that’s being used but thankfully it was pretty restrained on the night of the Frames gig. I took some exposures at f22 and f16 this time in order to make sure I got the crowd as well as the band and it worked out very nicely. Exposure time is about 5 minutes.
There’s a guy standing beside an amp in this shot (second from the left, between Bochnik and Odlum) that seems to be fiddling with a keyboard. I’ve no recollection of a sixth person being on stage at any point and I don’t know whether he was actually playing something, or whether he was a roadie who wandered on to fix something while the shutter was open and then got caught by a flash. If anyone out there knows the score, I’d be most grateful if you could let me know.
Hugh,
The mysterious keyboard person is Colm, who is otherwise playing fiddle during the set. On this song, and only this song, he plays a little Casio keyboard. I simply can’t recall the name of the tune right now, though. Sorry.
Oh yeah … of course that’s who it is. I’m such a dumbass. By the way Kris, if you look really really closely at the right hand side of the shot (it’s hard to see on the web version here but much clearer on the full-res one I have) your hands are just about visible on the monitor desk, just poking out from the curtain. Weirdly they are quite clear and sharp. This leads me to conclude that they are not moving at all. You call that work?
